One month down! Time seems to be going very fast. We had a fantastic week this week with the highlight being the sports day on Thursday. Well done to all the 7Hm students who participated and many got placings in their events. I have been so impressed by 7Hm in this first month, long may it continue. Now we can settle down into routine, without many interruptions coming up in the next few weeks for the year 7's.

Hi there parents/caregivers.
A quick couple of reminders for tomorrow Athletics Day. -Please would make sure your child wears appropriate sports’ uniform and/or House colours to the Athletic Sports tomorrow. This does NOT include jeans or inappropriate tee shirts and/or jackets. -The canteen in the gym foyer will be open at 10.30am through to 1.15pm. -Students should bring plenty of water, a suitable hat and also sunblock if necessary. -All students are to report to registration at the normal time tomorrow morning for last minute arrangements. -There will also be a form time back in form class rooms at 2.40pm where a roll will be taken. Thanks Matt Hooper 7Hm Homeroom teacher. Well done 7Hm!
What an awesome week we had together, with both Beach Ed (see the video below) and the House Day. I am seeing many good things happening 7Hm with classmates looking out for each other, getting involved in the many activities we have on offer and getting stuck into your work. Well done. Keep it up 7Hm. Looking forward to another awesome week next week, especially with athletics coming up on Thursday. Be Sunsmart! As we learned at Beach Ed! On Wednesday we had House Day!
Students were encouraged to dress up in house colours and participate in all the house activities. Activities included: -Be the quickest House to fill up a massive bucket using only water from the creek. -House Photo on the Bank. -Come up with house chant to use on athletics day and compete in the house chant competition. -Practice the school haka for the house haka competition later in term 2. The houses came together in period 3 and performed their house chants and house haka's in front of the whole school, which Matai Matai ended up winning overall. Well done all of 7Hm for the part you played in it. There were some great efforts made by all. Even though Matai won on the day, we all know that Rata is the best house of them all. Well 7Hm we are finished our second week together, by now I hope you are feeling part of the school and like you know your way around. You've been a joy to teach and your work habits/routines have been impressive.
As a class we have been busy this week, making our first trip to the library, getting necessary pre tests done, having a big game of stopball, finishing our desk mats, starting our life's a beach topic, dressing up in the old uniform and finishing it all off with a big game of capture the flag! If you weren't tired last week you will be now. Many more exciting things happening and to come, with Beach Ed and the House Day coming up next week, it will no doubt be a goodie! Students were fully involved in the history of KVC today! Some more than others. Well done to Jade, Cheyanne, Harry and Tyrone who were able to get dressed up in the uniform first worn in 1958, when the school opened.
Today we were blessed enough to have Mr Downes come in for a period to teach about KVC when it was first opened in 1958. Some of the students as you can see got to dress up in the old uniform. Many of the class members asked great questions and were becoming 'historical detectives' as Mr Downes put it.
All done and dusted for the first week back at school. Lots of exciting things happening, from the Mihi Whakatau, to creating desk mats, many games both indoor and out, meeting new people and making friends. It's been jam packed full of goodness and don't be surprised if you are feeling stuffed. I am too. A shame I couldn't be there for the whole week as I headed off to Invercargill on Friday for a wedding. Looking forward to a great start to the week next week, especially with a long weekend. Well done to Lori and Madi too for speaking during the Mihi Whakatau, I was most impressed. |
