Recently we have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to take part in Kiwi Golf (on a very chilly morning), an activity session with our Outdoor Pursuits class and a coaching session with our Growing Coaches Year 12 group. We may have the next Lydia Ko in our class!
Here is a photo of Keira's Holiday Snaps. This was our Week 1 homework activity. It was awesome to see some of the cool things students got up to in their holidays. For the remainder of Term 2 we will be doing an activity called The Amazing Race. This involves the children researching some facts on a country each week and handing it in by Friday. This is an increase on the homework expectations from Term 1 with the focus being on time management and using efficient research and work skills. Please see the attached note below.
Just a reminder that Swimming is happening every Friday this term at Moana Pool. All of the children brought a notice home about this last term and I have emailed the notice again this term. All children need to remember their togs, a towel and goggles (if they have them). There are some goggles that the instructors will lend out if students don't have their own.
We would love any helpers with supervision. Please let me know if you're available. Congratulations to the badge winners from 7Bd. As I said to the class, all of you have done some magnificent work and I wished I could have recognised more of you with this special acknowledgement.
Academic: Samantha and Alice Diligence: Hayley, Charlie, Cameron, Lexi Citizenship: Keira, Kaeyla, Aimee, Bonnie Leadership: Alice Achievement: Paskell (For her amazing success at Marching Nationals) I look forward to more people winning awards at the ceremony next term. If the weather is miserable in the holidays a cool interactive family activity could be to try Taleblazer. Some of the class have had a go this week at finding some characters that I hid around the school in an online augmented reality game. Taleblazer (and I am still a novice at this) is a site where you can make games that utilise GPS capabilities from phones to find characters that you hid at certain locations. It is an easy to make game similar to Pokemon Go, that craze that took the world by storm last year.
You can make the game on a miserable day in the holidays and then get out and run around and play it when the weather is nice. Go to taleblazer.org and make an account and you're away. Check out the video above on how to make a game and play. This week we set up a Field of Remembrance for fallen ANZAC soldiers. Check out Sam and Natalia setting up their crosses.
Here are the remaining 2 Ads. Never Swim Alone: Check out the ice cream props! Never Swim When Tired or Cold: That water is freezing by the way!
Check out the first 3 surf safety ads that the class made at the conclusion of our Life's a Beach topic. The focus was group work and sharing their message in a creative, exciting way. The other 2 ads are coming. We (I) am experiencing some technical computer difficulties sharing them. Never Swim Alone: featuring a savage turtle attack!!!!!! If in Doubt, Stay Out. Maybe it should be have a RESPONSIBLE adult watch over you....... Swim Between the Flags: Even though the water is ankle deep, you can get in trouble and may need rescued by a kayak paddling lifeguard!
Thank you to all of the families who came along to the 3-Way Conferences on the 29th. It was great to catch up and discuss the progress of your children. For those who were unable to attend, please feel free to contact me by email to discuss any questions you may have.
Congratulations to all of the families who have returned their 1000K Challenge raffle cards and money. To those who haven't, please do this as soon as possible. If your child was not able to raise any money, we still need their blank card returned asap please.
