Black Ferns Visit
Our Kaikorai Valley Junior College Girls Rugby Team visited former KVC student Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali, Kendra Cocksedge and Selica Winiata on Friday afternoon. Jazmine McKenzie bravely delivered a speech to Vic and presented her with a card from the staff along with some old photos of her Senior Touch team that Mr Burden and Ms Nafatali coached. We are very proud of Victoria's achievements and appreciate the extra time she spent with our KVJC girls. What exceptional role models these 3 ladies are, not only for our girls but girls all over New Zealand.

Junior College Boys Rugby Team
Our Junior College Boys Rugby Team at the Otago Sassenachs tournament on Wednesday. The boys faced some pretty sharp opposition but still managed to get over the line a few times. Everyone had a great day out.
Congratulations Jaiyushka Pratap (8Fl)
During Week 10 of Term 2 we held our leadership assembly, celebrating leadership in our Junior College. As well as awarding some badges for leadership in the individual classes, we presented a prestigious Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award.
It was wonderful to present Jaiyushka Pratap from 8Fl with a Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award. Jaiyushka is an outstanding student! Her diligence, initiative and the empathy that she demonstrates towards her peers, sets her apart. Jaiyushka is already a leader in Kapa Haka and founded the Secret 7's, a Year 7 singing group. As a learner, she is focused, inquisitive and driven to succeed. Winners of class awards:

Welcome to Mrs Annette Smith
We are very excited to welcome Mrs Annette Smith to our teaching team from Term 3 onwards. Mrs Smith will be taking the new Year 8 class that we are creating to reduce numbers in classes at Year 8. Due to significant roll growth, our Year 8 classes have increased to sizes that are not ideal.
From Term 3 we will have classes of 22 students at Year 8 for Homeroom, Science, Mathematics and Physical Education. Mrs Smith's enthusiasm and energy will be excellent assets to our department and we look forward to her working with our Year 8 students. |
KV History
7Hm students spent time last week doing a Kaikorai Valley history lesson with Mr Downes. Here are the photos from them posing in the old school uniform with Mr Geerlofs.
Welcome to 2017 at KVC
Welcome to Kaikorai Valley Junior College for 2017. To all of our new families, I extend a special welcome. To our returning families, welcome back and we look forward to working with you all in 2017.
This year we also welcome back Mr Manson after a year away pursuing his professional rugby career in Spain and Japan. We are very lucky to have a teacher of his outstanding calibre returning to our team.
As was mentioned in our brief welcome on Tuesday, we encourage ALL students to get involved in as many aspects of KVC life as possible. We are determined that finances will not be a road block to participation. If your child wants to be involved in an activity and funding is a challenge, please contact us so we can look to provide some assistance.
Finally, if you have any questions please contact us. You will find a list of email contacts on this website. We are also accessible by contacting the school via phone or through your child's student diary.
Regards,
Damian Burden
